K20 swap EM1

Post by Ohan462 »

Hey guys. Getting ready to k swap my em1 and I have some questions that i have not found the answers to.

First off its a 99-00 civic, I am using a 03 k20a2 with an 05-06 transmission. I haven't bought an ecu yet but i do have an 02-04 harness. I am wondering what is the simplest way to use ktuner? Ditch my harness and get an 05-06 harness and ecu? If so, do i still need a conversion harness? And are there any harness or wiring modifications needed?

My other question is does ktuner have live tuning so i don't need to shut the car off to upload like kpro? And can ktuner be tuned remotely?

I also read about 05-06 vtc having some differences but didn't know what exactly they were.

Sorry for all the questions, just needing some clarity before diving in. Thanks!

Either way will work. The conversion harness from 02-04 to 05-06 allows for an 05-06 ECU to be used. You'll need to wire up the cluster in that case.

There is some live tuning available. You need to flash to turn it on and off. Any dealer has the ability to remote tune you, or anyone can login to your laptop to do so.

Not relevant if you have the right harness or conversion harness.

So no wiring changes if using the 05-06 harness? And then no need for a conversion harness?

An 05-06 harness has everything needed to run systems properly with an 05-06 Trans and ECU.

So what must be done for the car to communicate with the ecu? Gauges, ignition etc. Maybe I'm just confused, but with the 05-06 harness and ecu without a conversion harness I'm not sure how everything will work.

And is there any issues running the 05-06 harness on the k20a2 since its an 03?

A conversion harness to go from 02-04 > 05-06 only allows an 05-06 ECU to be used with an 02-04 harness. It doesn't add anything else, so I'm unsure what you mean. A K20a2 can be run with an 05-06 ECU.

The 05-06 ECU has an RPM and VSS output that can be used with the dash. They're listed in the pinouts.

We can't assist you with the specific wiring, that's not what we do, so be sure to look at the pinouts for references.

I was referring to the conversion harness, not the jumper harness. Even if i ran 02-04 harness with 02-04 kpro i would still be using a conversion harness for the car to communicate with the ecu.

If you're talking about a chassis conversion harness that's a question for a company who makes them. I've already mentioned RPM and VSS as direct wiring you can use the pinout to wire up.

Is the v2 not compatible with the k swap?
