Stage 2 vs Starter 21psi?

Post by liggd001 »

hello for the base tunes there are multiple available for my vehicle. Stage 0, Stage 1, Stage 2 then Starter 18 and Starter 21 and Starter Dual. In any of the "Stage" tunes it gives me no tables and also no quick adjustments ect. Whats the difference between these to types of tunes? Are the "Stage" tunes just load and go? no adjustments are needed?

You can load and go with any of them. Starters allow you to adjust options.

Thanks. Does the stage 2 have faster acceleration and mid and top range power then the starter 21?

You can surpass the Stage 2 with the Starter maps through the various adjustments available.

What do we need to do with the various adjustments available to start edging up performance?

Does ktuner provide some sort of guideline for the end user stage 2 starter tune?

Please, just a little info would be great? What settings can we change and by how much in order to increase boost and horsepower… please understand some of us are complete layman with engine tuning, we don't want to blow anything up.

The quick adjustments are safe. Each one is explained in the Online Help and each name is labeled as levels of improvement for each option so you understand which is a higher level than the next.

Ok, so the end user starter 21psi starts with a tune at 21psi and as we adjust this will take it beyond 21psi and the software will let us know by how much? thanks for the info

If you're talking about boost targets, you can change those in the boost target tables. It targets what you tell it to in those tables.

Could you please explain the difference between Boost Target Normal versus Final Boost Target

So I consider these to be novice settings with starter stage 2 enabled and settings listed below, all other settings controlled by the ECU. Is there anything else I can do?

Under quick adjustments:

Rev Limits set default
Disabled/ monitors (all unchecked except for underboost condition)
Idle Target set default
Closed-loop setting set default
Fuel cut settings set default
MAF scaling set to default
DBW idle settings set default
Throttle Responsiveness set Improved Throttle Response II (CVT )
Eco Button set to Factory ECO Control
Turbo Spool set to Improved Spool II
Part Throttle Turbo Responsiveness set to Improved Responsiveness II
Boost Target Ramp Rate set to Aggressive Ramp II

Under quick enables:

Disable Boost Target Dampening unchecked
Early Spool checked

Graphing

The ignition base set to default
Ethanol ignition set to default
knock sensitivity set to default 1-4
knock sensitivity set to default 2-3
WTO enrichment set the default
Boost Target normal set to default
Boost Target Echo set to default
Final boost Target set interpolated from 2.5 PSI to 24 PSI
Ethanol boost set the default
Cylinder fill limits set the default
Boost by gear set to default

So with Final Boost Table set at 24 PSI (seems to be the default Max during real time logging with these settings). We are good to go with the Honda 1.5 L Turbo CVT and we should have the maximum output level.

Boost Target Normal is the boost target table in normal mode. This is where you set your boost targets based on your atmospheric pressure and RPM.

Final Boost Target is explained here:
http://ktuner.com/KTunerHelp/final_boost_target.htm

You shouldn't have really changed Final Boost Targets unless you're trying to extend the limits of boost targets overall.
